Clayton and Dillon's 8th place finish at regionals on Lake Cumberland qualified them to fish their 4th consecutive KHSAA State Championship. This was their last high school tournament together and they have had quite a run.
Regionals was their 10th high school tournament on Lake Cumberland over the past 4 years. They have weighed in a limit in 8 of those events and finished in the top 10 on four occasions. Most impressive is their consistency in the KHSAA Regional Tournament where they have qualified for State 4 consecutive years, fishing out of ramps at each end of the lake twice. At the KHSAA State Championship on Kentucky Lake, the senior duo brought to the scales a a two day total of 10 fish weighing 19 lbs 11 oz. This landed them in 17th place, their 3rd consecutive top 20 finish in this tournament. They are one of the few high school duos to make it to 4 consecutive KHSAA State Championships, and they are the only team ever with three consecutive top 20 finishes. They, along with Jake Seigle and Max Sullivan, graduate as the founding class of Spencer County High School's bass fishing team. On April 27, 2019, we competed at Lake Cumberland in the KHSAA Region 2 tournament. The largest of the 4 regions in Kentucky, 198 boats did their best to qualify for the KHSAA State Championship at Kentucky Lake. Of the 5 Spencer County boats that competed, Clayton Rountree and Dillon Stallings were the highest finishers weighing in a 5-fish limit of 13lbs 1oz. Their 8th place finish qualifies them for their fourth consecutive State Tournament. The rest of our boats also brought some fish to the scales:
Jake Seigle and Drew Lyvers: 4 fish, 8lbs 2oz Elijah Young and Grant Schneider: 3 fish, 5lbs 6oz Andy Napier: 2 fish, 4lbs 6oz Ivy Pulliam and Sadie Martin: 3 fish, 3lbs 4oz On April 13, 2019, FLW hosted an open tournament on Lake Cumberland. 161 boats participated and our team was represented by 4 boats. Once again, Clayton Rountree and Dillon Stallings were our highest finishers weighing in a 5 fish limit for 12lbs 6oz. They finished in 8th place and once again qualified for the High School Fishing National Championship on Pickwick Lake in June. Their limit consisted of two smallmouth and three largemouth which were caught in a variety of ways. The freshman duo of Andy Napier and Ryan Whitehead weighed in 4 fish for 9lbs 6oz and finished 23rd. Ivy Pulliam and Sadie Martin weighed in one fish for 2lbs 3oz and finished 93rd.
On March 30, the FLW/SAF Kentucky State Championship was held on Lake Cumberland. 240 boats competed from all over the state of Kentucky, 7 of which were from Spencer County High School. Dillon Stallings and Clayton Rountree were our highest finishers weighing in a 5 fish limit for 11lbs 3oz. They finished in 34th place while Jonathan Tindle and Shawn Lisby finished in 64th with a five fish limit weighing 8lbs 15oz. Overall, 5 of our 7 boats weighed fish and it was a great weekend to be on the lake.

The boys brought 3 fish to the scales that weighed 5 lbs 4 oz. Their catch earned them an 8th place finish and could potentially earn them a trip to the High School National Championship next summer. Fishing was extremely tough as only 21 of the nearly 70 boats competing caught a keeper. A team from Marshall County High School won the tournament with a 5-fish limit that weighed 11 lbs 14oz.
We are proud of Andy & Ryan and also very excited about their future with the SCHS Bass Fishing Team! Clayton Rountree and Dillon Stallings traveled to Kentucky Lake to compete in the KHSAA State Championship which took place on May 11th and 12th. Their finish in the regional tournament on Lake Cumberland qualified the junior duo to fish for the state title for the third consecutive season. After two very tough days of practice on Kentucky Lake, the boys weighed in 3 fish for 10lbs on day one of the tournament. Their catch landed them in 10th place and still very much in contention for the state title. On day 2, the fishing was even slower and the guys landed 2 fish weighing in at 6lbs 1oz. Their two-day total of 16lbs 1 oz earned them an 11th place finish out of 80 boats who participated.
Marshall County anglers Tristan Barrett and Evan Bremmerkamp won the tournament with a two day total of 8 fish weighing 27lbs 11oz. April 21, 2018- Lake Cumberland
The Spencer County High School Bass Fishing Team competed in regional competition at Lake Cumberland on Saturday, April 21. Four boats from our team fished in hopes of qualifying for one of 29 spots from region 2 in the KHSAA State Championship to be held in May on Kentucky Lake. On a very challenging tournament day, Clayton Rountree and Dillon Stallings managed a 5-fish limit weighing in at 9lbs 5oz earning them a 19th place finish and a trip to the state tournament. With debris covering much of Lake Cumberland and the water color varying drastically on different areas of the lake, the boys caught their limit covering a lot of water and sticking with what had worked for them during practice. This is the third consecutive season that the junior duo has qualified for state competition. They will travel to Kentucky Lake and compete in the KHSAA State Championship on May 11th and 12th and look to bring our first state championship back to Taylorsville. March 31, 2018- Lake Cumberland
The Spencer County High School Bass Fishing Team sent 5 teams to participate in the 2018 SAF Kentucky State Championship on Saturday, March 31. The tournament launched from Burnside Island State Park and included 243 teams from all over the state of Kentucky. Clayton Rountree and Dillon Stallings, juniors from SCHS, finished tied for 4th place with 12lbs 6oz. They caught their five fish limit early on Saturday and culled several times before their 3:30 weigh-in. The 4th place finish qualified these student anglers for the High School Fishing National Championship on Pickwick Lake Jun 26-29. Rountree and Stallings weren't the only teams with some success on Lake Cumberland Saturday. Jonathan and Brandon Tindle weighed in a 5-fish limit for 7lbs 1oz earning them a 41st place finish. They were one of only 23 boats to weigh in five fish and missed the cut to qualify for the national tournament by just over a pound. Drew Lyvers and Jake Seigle weighed in two fish for 4lbs 7oz. Sadie Martin and Hunter Campanell weighed in one fish for 3lbs 1oz. Max Sullivan and Collin Hall weighed in one fish for 1lb 10oz, All 5 teams from Spencer County finished in the top half of the standings on a day when 109 boats failed to weigh in a single fish. |
