Clayton Rountree and Dillon Stallings competed in the KHSAA Bass Fishing State Championship at Kentucky Lake on Friday, May 13th and Saturday, May 14th. Their two-day weight of 12lbs 1 oz was good for 45th place out of the 64 boats that qualified. The fishing was tough as the weather brought heavy rains, wind gusts and cooler temperatures but the boys did well and found some fish. The freshman duo have weighed in 16 fish for over 40lbs in four tournaments in this first season of competitive fishing for Spencer County High School.
Eric Price and Noah West from Lawrence County High School won the tournament with a two-day total of 34lbs 4oz. Clayton Bobo and Myles Mcmanus of Calloway County High School won the biggest bass award by bringing a 6lb 15oz bass to the scales on Friday. A big thanks to Coach Mike Rogers of the Murray State Football team. He hopped in the boat for an afternoon of fishing, giving the guys some pointers on ledge fishing.
