Clayton Rountree and Dillon Stallings traveled to Kentucky Lake for the KHSAA State Championship which was held on May 12th and 13th. Kentucky Dam Village was the host site as FLW and KHSAA teamed up to put on another awesome event for high school anglers. 64 teams competed in the two-day event where records were broken and some impressive bags of fish were weighed in.
Clayton and Dillon brought a limit of largemouth weighing 17lbs 13 oz to the scales on Friday which put them in 7th place after day 1. It was an impressive haul and left the boys only 2 pounds behind the day 1 leaders. On Saturday, the bites still came but the size of the fish had diminished. Their five fish limit weighed in at 10lbs 8oz bringing their 2-day total to 28lbs 5oz. Their 16th place finish was quite an improvement from last year and the boys hope to qualify again next season for another shot at the state title. Clayton and Dillon are building an impressive resume of tournament finishes and they still have two years of high school to continue their run. Taylor Harris and Braxten Beasley of Muhlenberg County won the 2017 KHSAA State Championship with a record-breaking 2-day weight of 38lbs 10oz which included a 7lbs 7oz bass caught on Saturday.
